Play on the first day of round two of the Guyana Cricket Board Senior 4-day Inter-county tournament was yesterday cut short by the rain.

When rain sent the players off the field at 16:35hrs Demerara were 107-1 in 27.3 overs after being put in by the President’s XI at DCC; Rajendra Chandreka is unbeaten on 52 and Shemroy Barrington not out on 13.

Earlier Chandreka and Robin Bacchus put together 42 for the opening stand before the rain intervened at 11:04hrs after 7 overs with Chandreka on 21 and Bacchus on 20. When play restarted at 15:15hrs pacer Seon Daniels soon trapped Bacchus leg before for 33 (5×4, 1×6) at 55. Chandreka was then joined by Barrington and brought up his half century which contained nine fours just before the rain came; Daniels ended the day with 1-33.

Demerara made one change to their starting XI replacing Totaram Bishun with Shaquille Williams, while the President’s XI included Steven Latcha.

At Wales, GT&T Berbice won the toss and inserted Essequibo who had progressed to 55-3 before the rain stopped play just before lunch. Essequibo found themselves on the back foot after pacer Keon Joseph removed opener Royan Federicks for 05 at 11 and Clinton Pestano accounted for Norman Federicks (07) and Wayne Osborne (09) to leave the score at 27-3.

Ricardo Adams 06 not out and Herrell Green, who is unbeaten on 14, steadied the ship somewhat for the Essequibians by adding 27 for the fourth wicket before the interval. Both matches continue today.

Meanwhile, Dillon Heyliger, Kenzo Baksh and Roopesh Motilall were replaced by Kemo Paul, Mark Gonsalves and Mark Tyrell in the Essequibo team after sustaining injuries.
