Plans are afoot to provide lighting facilities for the Albion Sports complex, according to Region Six Chairman, David Armogan. He said after discussions with president Donald Ramotar, an agreement was made to have the premier cricket arena in Berbice be equipped with the facilities for night cricket.

Not only will we be able to have night cricket there, but it will enhance our chances of having any game played there in the night under lights,” the Regional Chairman said.

In the past, the Berbice Cricket Board, in collaboration with the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association, has organized night cricket at the Albion Sports Complex, but because of insufficient lighting, the boundaries had to be brought in significantly. Even then the light is not very effective.

Recently, the Chamber made a promise to purchase lights for the outside of the complex which was considered poorly lit. The Chamber will use funds garnered from a recent game organized jointly with the Berbice Cricket Board. According to the chamber president Imran Sacoor, the lights on the outer side will assist persons who want to exercise in the nights.

Meanwhile, according to Armogan, the type of lights to be installed at the venue is similar to those at the National Stadium. The project is expected to be completed by the end of January 2013.
