Adams, Murray Hit Fifties

Half centuries by Essequibo U-15 captain Ricardo Adams and Don Murray highlighted the latest round of matches in the Igloo Ice Cream 40 overs round robin cricket competition last Sunday in Wakenaam.

At Zeelandia, the host defeated Noitgedacht by 74 runs.  Led by Ricardo Adams 79 (4×4, 3×6) and Don Murray 60 (3×4, 2×6), Zeelandia, who batted first, scored 262 all out in 38 overs.  Former Essequibo U-19 pacer Anthony Osborne grabbed 3-40 while former national U-15 pacer Neal Ramalho took 2-28 and former Essequibo U-15 allrounder Ahmad Khan 2-30.

Noitgedacht in reply managed 185 before they were bowled out in 38 overs.   Ramalho returned to top score with 45 while Osborne supported with 37 and Essequibo U-15 player Hassan Mohamed 18.  Navishaul Pooran was the leading bowler for the victors with 5-35 while Adams backed up with 2-28.

At Maria’s Pleasure, Sans Souci spearheaded by Gurnauth Khemraj 47 (4×4, 1×6), Derwin Daniels 42 (1×4, 1×6), former national U-15 player Oyono Sampson 26 (2×4, 1×6) and Seon Venture 18 (1×4, 1×6) overcame the home team by 86 runs.

The visitors, who won the toss and decided to bat first on a newly re-laid pitch, made 189 all out in 35 overs.  Medium pacer Cort Graham snared 4-28 while Leonard Lewis took 3-16 and Kennard Lewis 2-22 for Maria’s Pleasure who were skittled out for 103 in 22 overs.  Marsh Singh was their leading run scorer with 26 while Kennard Lewis made 21 as Oyono Sampson with 4-22, Varounie Sasepaul 3-14 and Gurnauth Khemraj 3-20 bowled well for the winners.

At Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success, the host got the better of Sans Souci Jaguars by 7 wickets in a low scoring affair.

The Jaguars took first strike and were bundled out for 83 in 30 overs.  Gladwyn Henry 15, Essequibo U-15 player Moin Khan 15 and Nokta Moses 10 were the only batsmen to reached double figures on a pitch with lots of preparation moisture.  Chandreka Ragnauth took 3-15 while there were two wickets each for Wazir Khan and Imran Khan.

Good Success then knocked off the required target in 16 overs ending on 86-3.  Essequibo allrounder Nazeer Mohamed scored 23 while Imran Khan made 18 and Ragnauth 16.  Zaheer Mohamed, Nokta Moses and Imran Khan were the wicket takers for the Jaguars.

Meanwhile, in matches played the previous Sunday, Sans Souci defeated Zeelandia by 139 runs and Sans Souci Jaguars beat Maria’s Pleasure by 30 runs.

Boodram 41, Navishaul Pooran 33, Ricardo Adams 31, Don Murray 20, V. Ramnarine 4-35, O. Sampson 4-32).

At Wakenaam Community Centre ground: S. S. Jaguars made 93 all out in 25 overs (Gladwyn Henry 22, Charles Benjamin 20, Kennard Lewis 3-20, Bernard Lewis 3-21, Leonard Lewis 2-18)  Maria’s Pleasure replied with 63 all out in 22 overs (Nokta Moses 6-20, Moin Khan 2-15).  The competition continues on Sunday.
