Wolf’s Warriors (Open), Floodlight and Savage Masters (Over-40) secured places in the finals of the Guyana Softball Cup 4 yesterday.


Lennox Marks stroked a fine century as Farm XI defeated Karibee Boyz by a mammoth 135 runs when the fourth edition of the Guyana Softball Cup got under way yesterday.


It should be noted that Nigel Greaves also represented Guyana in the 1986 Under-19 Cricket Team.

Berbice Cricket


Former National and Berbice swing bowler Vibert Johashen, who was born on August 17, 1948 in Demerara, passed away recently at age 68. He will be buried today in his adopted county Berbice.

Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper Denesh Ramdin and teammate Lendl Simmons have been fined by the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for dissent shown in the controversial final with Barbados Tridents on August 16 in St Kitts and Nevis.


The Amazon Warriors has decided to contest the outcome of the CPL final against the Barbados Tridents on August 16 at Warner Park, St Kitts.

Remembering Ivor Mendonca


THE LOCAL cricketing fraternity was thrown into a state of mourning yesterday morning, following the death of 79-year-old Ivor Leon Mendonca.


Former Guyana and West Indies wicketkeeper/bastman Ivor Leon Mendonca passed away on Saturday morning, losing the battle to cancer. He was 79.


"Guyana's production of wicket-keepers has been somewhat limited. Wicket-keeping has remained Guyana's major weakness."


The High Court on Wednesday discharged an Interim Injunction obtained by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) against the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB). That injunction was granted by the Honourable Justice Sandra Kurtzious (in Chambers) on April 14.

Guyana and West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul qualified to represent the Floodlights softball team at long last, after he turned 40 recently. "Floodlights" is a leading softball team in Georgetown, where the game is very popular.
