Berbice Cricket


After a long delay due to inclement weather, the final of the 2013 Ramcharitar Construction Service’s First Division 50-over cricket competition in Berbice is now scheduled for Sunday at the Albion Community Centre ground.


Action in the Guyana Tractor and Equipment (Guytrac) 20/20 cricket competition is set to bowl off on Sunday in Upper Corentyne, Berbice, with a total of 10 matches at five venues.


At a simple ceremony held recently, the Organising Committee of the Guyana Independence T20 Cup 2014 made presentations to several charitable organisations with proceeds garnered from the tournament.

Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper Denesh Ramdin and teammate Lendl Simmons have been fined by the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for dissent shown in the controversial final with Barbados Tridents on August 16 in St Kitts and Nevis.


The Amazon Warriors has decided to contest the outcome of the CPL final against the Barbados Tridents on August 16 at Warner Park, St Kitts.

Remembering Ivor Mendonca


THE LOCAL cricketing fraternity was thrown into a state of mourning yesterday morning, following the death of 79-year-old Ivor Leon Mendonca.


Former Guyana and West Indies wicketkeeper/bastman Ivor Leon Mendonca passed away on Saturday morning, losing the battle to cancer. He was 79.


"Guyana's production of wicket-keepers has been somewhat limited. Wicket-keeping has remained Guyana's major weakness."


The High Court on Wednesday discharged an Interim Injunction obtained by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) against the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB). That injunction was granted by the Honourable Justice Sandra Kurtzious (in Chambers) on April 14.
